VOC Emissions
Impacts, Compliance, and Solutions for Cleaner Air
Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are organic chemicals characterised by high vapor pressure and low solubility in water. Although VOCs mainly originate from natural sources like plants and wildfires, their anthropogenic sources have grown over time.
Various domestic and industrial activities — including food extraction, fertilizer and pesticide application, petroleum storage and distribution, textile cleaning, printing, and pharmaceutical industries — contribute to VOC emissions. In the textile and footwear sectors, VOCs are often utilised in chemical preparations and in combination with other VOCs as cleaning agents or solvents. They also find applications in adhesives, coatings for fabrics and leather coatings, screen print inks, and coated textiles.
VOCs pose significant concerns for human health and the environment, bringing about increasingly stringent regulations and heightened pressure on businesses to effectively manage VOCs.
