AGEC’s Product Sheet for effective DPP preparation
The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) entered into force on 18 July 2024, aiming to significantly improve the circularity, energy performance, and other environmental sustainability aspects of products within the EU market.
To achieve these aims, the ESPR will introduce a Digital Product Passport (DPP) to store relevant information on the sustainability and circularity of products, components, and materials. This electronically accessible information will allow consumers, manufacturers, and authorities to make more informed decisions when considering the environmental performance and regulatory compliance of products and materials within their supply chains.
Whilst the specifics of what will be included in the DPP framework are still being developed, it’s clear that comprehensive environmental and regulatory data is going to be required. Knowing where to start can be daunting, so it’s useful to look to existing legislation and frameworks to develop our understanding and start to prepare.
In France, the Anti-Waste for a Circular Economy (AGEC) Law passed in 2022, aiming to support the transition to a less wasteful and more circular economy. AGEC law introduces the Product Sheet Relating to Environmental Qualities and Characteristics, requiring producers, importers, and marketers to disclose and display key environmental information for their products. This offers a great starting point for those looking to prepare for the DPP.
