PFAS risk is no longer defined by chemical restrictions alone. Global and regional frameworks continue to expand, including the Stockholm Convention, EU REACH, Washington’s Safer Products programme, Canada’s class‑based CEPA approach, France’s national restrictions, and TSCA reporting. Increasingly, PFAS is being enforced and accountability is being placed directly on brands rather than on materials.

Recent enforcement actions have shown that a documented phase‑out of intentionally‑added PFAS and a total organic fluorine cap, on their own, do not offer sufficient protection for brands.
