Preparing For The Proposed EU Toy Safety Regulation
The European Union (EU) has introduced a proposed Toy Safety Regulation designed to strengthen the protection of children against unsafe toys. This new Regulation is set to replace the existing Toy Safety Directive (Directive 2009/48/EC).
Outlined below are the key differences between the proposed Toy Safety Regulation and the current Toy Safety Directive:
- Change from Directive to Regulation
- New scope and exemption
- New requirements for Economic Operators obligations
- Expanded ban on additional harmful chemicals
- Expanded scope for Appendix C
- New labelling requirements
- Include Digital Product Passport (DPP)
- New requirements for safety assessment
- Updates to the EN 71 testing series
Anticipated to be implemented this year, the proposed Toy Safety Regulation will greatly affect toy manufacturers and retailers in European markets. Preparing ahead for it could facilitate a smooth transition and reduce the risk of non-compliance, which could lead to product delays, recalls, or other financial losses.
Our team of toy experts is fully knowledgeable about the proposed Toy Safety Regulation and continues to monitor any changes to it.
